Memories of a Great Conjunto / My Dad and his Compadres
by Ricardo Vasquez (not verified), 10/13/2022 - 22:47My Dad Nic Vasquez Sr. Of San Diego Tx was the drummer for Mr. Nene Cadena for many years.and I believe that he is playing drums in these recordings. I believe that the last time they played together was on New Year’s Eve of 1979.I could be mistaken but I do believe that this was their last performance together.throughout the years , they joked about starting up the conjunto again but it never happened. My Dad passed away in 2018 and was buried on his 80th birthday .I am very good friends with Mr Ruben Lopez of TejanoRoots out of Alice Tx , and we’ve talked about getting my dad and Nene Cadena into the Tejano Roots Hall of fame . After all it is the small town conjuntos and bands that pickup the slack and make the Big Bands of Tejano, The Big Stars that they are . Thank you for your time. Mr Rick Vasquez.
