Notes & History

Thanks for data on Bill Haley and The Comets

de Agustin Gurza, 01/05/2022 - 17:29

Alex:

Thanks so much for this fascinating information, which only an expert would know. I notice that the RCA label lists Irma Carlon as the singer with the "Orquesta Bob Hayes." As you note, Hayes was Haley's partner and co-writer. I've never heard of Irma Carlon before, but I see she has several other recordings in our collection, all RCA 45s with different backup groups.

Thanks again. And happy record collecting!

"Mitad de Corazón" believed backed by Bill Haley's Comets

de Alex (not verified), 01/03/2022 - 10:06

As the label indicates, rock and roll pioneer Bill Haley co-wrote this along with his business associate at the time, Bob Hayes. The A-side, Mitad de Corazon, is believed to have featured Haley's band, the Comets, as the backing musicians (it was recorded at a time when the group was beginning to establish their "second life" as recording stars in Mexico, q.v. Florida Twist etc.). Comets involvement on the B-side, No Es Maravilloso, is not confirmed owing to additional musicians being evident in the audio clip.

This is considered a rarity among Haley collectors; in 2019, a DJ promo copy sold at online auction for $200US.
