Notes & History
Aldemaro Romero
de Agustin Gurza, 07/09/2018 - 10:55Dear Ruby:
Thanks you for contacting us about your father, the great Venezuelan orchestra leader and arranger. I am happy you found his recordings in our collection.
The name of the archive is a bit of a misnomer, as you have noted. The Frontera Collection contains a wide array of music from other countries, all across the Spanish-speaking world. Our founder, Chris Strachwitz, spent decades collecting records from many sources, including radio stations, distributors, record labels, and from other private collectors across the country. Although, his main focus was Mexican and Mexican-American music, his purchases allowed him to gather a variety of other styles, from Cuban son to Spanish flamenco and Argentine tango. The collection thus features many major Latin Americans artists, including your father.
I have several of his albums in my own private collection, so I was quite honored to hear from you. I’d be interested in writing a biography of your father for his page on our website, and perhaps you can help us with more information about him.
Regards,
Agustín Gurza, Editor, The Frontera Collection
Marvelous !
de Ruby Romero (not verified), 07/08/2018 - 05:44Hello,
I am the daughter of Aldemaro Romero and it fascinates me that you have these recordings.
All his original manuscripts have been donated to the Otto Richter Library of the University of Miami.
Aldemaro Romero was from Venezuela.
It is curious to me how it ended up in a Mexican Collection.
Thank you for sharing.
