Response to Wrong Artist
by Agustin Gurza, 07/24/2021 - 16:25John:
Thank you so much for pointing out the error. Your initial observation sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole, but I finally figured out our mistake.
Basically, we posted the wrong label image for this song. The title and the artist are correct in our database, because they match the audio track. So the song you hear actually is "Me Caí de la Nube" by Jorge y Gilberto.
However, the pictured label belongs to a totally different track, "Me Caiste del Cielo" by Lalo Ayala. That recording exists in our collection by Lalo Ayala on two different Texas labels, Discos Combate No. C-102529-A from Houston and ZaZ No. ZZ-192-A from San Antonio, the latter with a different arrangement.
Adding to the confusion, both songs – "Me Caí de la Nube" and “Me Caiste del Cielo" – were written by the late, great Cornelio Reyna. I’ve linked to the exceptional versions performed, first, by Reyna as a soloist with mariachi and, second, by Los Relámpagos del Norte, the seminal norteño group featuring Reyna with his partner Ramon Ayala on accordion. This duo really set a standard, I think you’ll agree.
Thanks again for writing to us. We will upload the correct label image for the song by Jorge y Gilberto.
Warm regards,
Agustín Gurza, Editor, The Frontera Collection
